But the 64 bit version of Windows 7 can only be started in 64 bit versions of Windows. Considerable amount of the installation process is done this way especially if you doing in place upgrades from Vista or doing a custom install. In reply to littleome's post on June 5, Did you start the installation from with a previous version of Windows or did you boot from the DVD?
Do you have external storage devices attached to the system such as thumb drive or external hard disk? If so, please disconnect them. In reply to Andre Da Costa's post on June 5, I have a clean hard drive,64 bit and the computer keeps asking for a drive to run it. Do not use those Driver update web sites! Use your OEM's web site. Go there and find you model. You should find all your drivers there.
Download and copy them to your flash drive. The probability that you will use them, is low. In most cases the Win7 install process provides all the right drivers and Windows Update with Other Microsoft products will update them if required. Updating drivers is not something you do unless you have a specific problem to solve that points to a driver.
